Loot planning matters more than blind boss spam in Diablo IV Season 14. Once you understand what feeds each reward type, the grind feels much less wasteful. Players building around D4 items should focus on the new key economy first, since it now leads naturally into Mythics, Greater Affixes, XP, and upgrade materials instead of forcing you to gamble on random invasions.
Why Deathtoll Chambers Matter
The big change is simple: high-Torment Deathtoll Chambers guarantee at least one Superior Lair Key, with extra keys possible. That turns them into the centre of the season's farm rather than a side activity. Pandemonium Ruptures appear more often, carry more elite packs, and give better returns alongside Realmwalker events. Lair bosses can also drop their own target Uniques as Mythics now, so chasing a boss-specific item no longer means giving up on a Mythic roll.
| Activity | Main reward | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Deathtoll Chamber | Superior Lair Keys | Fuel Ultimate Nemesis runs |
| Corrupted Reaper | Pandemonium Fragments | Focused Hoard rewards |
| Hell Tide | Normal and Greater Keys | Keep the Lair chain moving |
A Practical Key Route
Don't wait around for one event. Rotate activities and keep the pace up. Realmwalkers are worth doing whenever they show up, roughly every 20 minutes, because activating the three altars and clearing the resulting chamber gives a reliable Superior Key. Between those windows, Nightmare Dungeons and Hell Tides cover the gap.
- Clear the Realmwalker and finish its Deathtoll Chamber.
- Run Nightmare Dungeons, locate ruptures, and close 15 tiers for another chamber.
- Look for the large orange cultist rupture during Hell Tide.
- Save every Superior Key until you have enough for a serious Nemesis session.
Spend Keys Where the Loot Is
When the key pile starts growing, head through the middle route in the Lair Boss menu. A normal Lair Boss can lead to a Nemesis Lair, then a Greater Nemesis Lair, and eventually a Call of Evil. That final call costs three Superior Lair Keys and opens the Ultimate Nemesis Lair. It's a rough fight, no question, but it's where repeated Mythic attempts make sense. For focused farming, the Corrupted Reaper in Zarbinzet is another strong option. Its Hoard can pay out Uniques, Charms, and Mythics, while the kill itself can drop Pandemonium Fragments based on Torment level.
Keep the Whole Loop Supplied
Hell Tide is still the best place to refill normal and Greater Lair Keys. Take the Blood Rot path with Bursting Brood, then deal with the Pangs of Duriel from Hellmouth invasions. They drop the cheaper keys often enough to keep runs flowing. The bartering vendor's summoning cache is worth checking too, especially if Pale Marks are just sitting there. Before committing to a long boss session, it's smart to buy cheap D4 items for weak gear slots, then use Night Terrors and Meat Brothers in your War Plan for extra Butchers, XP, and Profane Mind Cages.
